Check in your personal items
No personal items to be taken into the test room (except for religious reasons). Test day staff will collect and safely store your personal belongings. Items which are forbidden from the test room include: mobile phones, watches, smartwatches, hand-held computers, cameras, hats, scarves, wallets, books, notes or food. Candidates found with these items will be removed from the exam and will not receive a transfer or refund. The Test Centre suggests that you leave your valuables at home rather than bring them to the Test Centre. The Test centre is not responsible for any lost or stolen items.
In the test room, candidates are permitted a clear, unmarked water bottle, wooden pencils, unmarked erasers, and the identification used to register for the test.
ID check
When you register on test day, a member of staff will check your identification (ID). Your ID must be the same ID that you used when you booked the test. It must also be valid (unexpired) and a recognisable photo of yourself. Copies or other forms of ID are NOT accepted for any reason, no exceptions. Do not send your passport away for Visa extensions, and ensure your passport is valid before applying for the test.
If you are a refugee living in Canada, you may not have a passport or Permanent Resident card. In this case, please contact the Test Centre.
A photograph and finger scan will be taken when you register on Test Day. Before you enter the test room, your finger will be scanned again to verify your identity.
Important Information
You must bring the ID document used for registration with you on test day – either your valid passport or Permanent Resident (PR) Card. Photocopies of either document will not be accepted, please be sure to bring the originals or you will not be allowed in the test room.
Entering the test room
When it is time to enter the test room, a test invigilator will guide you to your seat. Do not write any notes. You are not permitted to speak to any other candidates. If you have a question, put up your hand and a member of staff will assist you. On your desk, you are only allowed to have water in a clear, unmarked bottle.
Breaks
No breaks are permitted while the listening CD is playing or in the last ten minutes of each section. If you need to leave the test room to go to the toilet at any other time, raise your hand and ask a member of staff.
Asking for help
If you have a problem (e.g. if you think you have been given the wrong paper, you cannot hear the instructions, or you feel ill) raise your hand to attract the attention of the invigilators. Please note that the invigilator will not answer questions on test content.
End of the test
You cannot leave your seat until your papers have been collected and you have been told to leave. If you finish early you must wait quietly until the test is finished and you are advised that you can leave. You must leave any notes and materials on the desk.
If you have a complaint about the conduct of your test, you should make a complaint on Test Day. IELTS results cannot be issued until the complaint has been investigated and resolved to the satisfaction of IDP. For complaints not related to the IELTS test a feedback form is available.
After the test
Collect your belongings from the cloaking area. Your provisional results will be available online 13 calendar days after the test. Go to the IELTS Essentials website to view your results. The system will not display results for more than 28 days after your test date.
